LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE Aug, '01 to Current Represent the students of UC Berkeley to the Academic Senate, the faculty governing body of the University. Discuss, debate, and vote on matters relating to academic freedom with the five faculty members and one other student on the committee.
Aug, '00 to Current Co-founded and organized a student chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) during my first semester at UC Berkeley. Helped organize multiple forums, teach-ins, and rallies as Internal Vice President for the '00-'01 school year, building the Berkeley ACLU into one of the largest and most active college ACLU chapters in the nation. Plan and run weekly meetings as President for the '01-'02 school year. Delegate responsibilities to officers and members while facilitating democratic discussion and decision-making. Coordinate the organizing of forums, issue campaigns, and a spring semester student-run class on Current Issues in Civil Liberties sponsored by the Ethnic Studies Department of UC Berkeley. Represent the Berkeley ACLU to the public through interactions with the student government, the ACLU of Northern California, the national ACLU, and both the local and national news media.
Aug, '00 to Dec, '00 Collaborated with three other student interns to organize a "Clean Air, Clean Cars" public education campaign. Helped plan a zero-emission-vehicle car show on the UC Berkeley campus and a teach-in on the future prospects of fuel cell technology.
SPECIAL PROGRAMS Jan, '02 to Current Selected as one of fifty students from among over one hundred applicants to participate in a University-sponsored summer internship program in Washington, D.C. Participate in weekly class meetings to build professional skills.
WORK EXPERIENCE Jan, '01 to Current Guide of tours of the UC Berkeley campus for up to sixty visitors at a time, performing important outreach by acting as a direct link between the University and prospective students and their families, schools, tourists, and the general public.
