Career Assessments at UCSC
Are you unsure about a career choice? Have you wondered what you can pursue with your UCSC major? Are you unsure of which major to choose? The UCSC Career Center offers three career assessments that can help you gain clarity about these issues. These assessments can be taken individually or together.
Come in for career advising to arrange to complete any of the following assessments. Once you
have taken one or more of these assessments, a career advisor will
meet with you to provide you with feedback on your results.
1.Focus on-line assessment tool (no cost)
- Are you unsure of what careers best suit you?
- Are you having trouble choosing a major?
- Do you know the UCSC majors that lead to particular careers?
- FOCUS will help you select the right major & make a career plan!
- Available to UCSC students, alumni, faculty and staff.
2. Career Development Plan and Workbook (no cost)
This workbook provides exercises that assess your interests, values,
and skills which will help you determine what career paths may be
appropriate for you. You may download a copy of the Workbook (Career
Development Plan and Workbook), but schedule a meeting with
a career adviser to discuss
your results.
3. Strong Interest Inventory –
takes about 35 minutes ($15 cost)
Identifies your areas of interests as well as occupations and majors
(if applicable) that you may be interested in pursuing. This assessment
is provided on line, and you must first meet with a career
adviser to get the web site address and password to access it.
4. Myers Briggs Type Indicator -
takes about 35 min. ($15 cost)
A personality preference assessment based on psychoanalyst Carl Jung's theories. The results indicate your personality preferences to help you better understand yourself and the career possibilities you may find satisfying. This assessment is provided on line, and you must first meet with a career adviser to get the web site address and password to access it.
