Sammy Awards Requirements

The Sammy Awards are each awarded to one member/organization of the UCSC community that meets the eligibility requirements and criteria for their award. Awards are given in the following categories: 

Undergraduate Student of the Year - Awarded to one undergraduate student for personal achievements, contributions to their organization/employer, personal/professional growth, leadership, and academic record. To be eligible for this award, a nominee must have participated in 1+ quarters of experiential education in the past year (internship, practicum, research, student teaching, clinical or field work).

Gradate Student of the Year - Awarded to one graduate student for personal achievements, contributions to their organization/employer, personal/professional growth, leadership, and academic record. To be eligible for this award, a nominee must have participated in 1+ quarters of experiential education in the past year (internship, practicum, research, student teaching, clinical or field work).

Student Organization of the Year - Awarded to one UCSC student organization for their support of the mission and values of the Career Success team within the calendar year, and/or exemplifying professional development and/or career awareness in their programming/philanthropic efforts. To be eligible for this award, a nominee must be Registered Student Organizations or Registered Greek Organizations with SOAR.

Honored Faculty - Awarded to one UCSC faculty member for promoting professional/career development among UCSC students, and being engaged in helping students in career exploration and the job search process, whether that is part of their job description or not. To be eligible for this award, a nominee must be a full-time UCSC employee and have worked at UCSC for >1 year.

Honored Staff - Awarded to one UCSC staff member for promoting professional/career development among UCSC students, and being engaged in helping students in career exploration and the job search process, whether that is part of their job description or not. To be eligible for this award, a nominee must be a full-time UCSC employee and have worked at UCSC for >1 year.

Honored Administrator - Awarded to one UCSC administrator for promoting professional/career development among UCSC students, and being engaged in helping students in career exploration and the job search process, whether that is part of their job description or not. To be eligible for this award, a nominee must be a full-time UCSC employee and have worked at UCSC for >1 year.

Employer of the Year - Presented to one organization who has contributed to career success for our campus community, for example through support of career programs, sponsorship of events, and/or student/alumni recruitment. To be eligible for this award, a nominee must have posted a job/internship in the past calendar year, and must have participated in 1+ Career Success event(s) in the past calendar year. 

Recruiter of the Year - Presented to an individual from an organization who has contributed to career success for our campus community, for example through support of career programs and events, and/or student/alumni recruitment. To be eligible for this award, a nominee must have participated in 1+ Career Success event(s) in the past calendar year. 

Alumni of the Year - Presented to an alum of UC Santa Cruz who is achieving outstanding professional success in his or her career and/or making significant contributions to enhance current students' career development. In order to be eligible, the nominee must have obtained their degree (undergraduate or graduate) from UC Santa Cruz. 

Excellence Award - Introduced in 2019 to recognize individuals, both on and off campus, who have consistently made a positive impact on the work of UC Santa Cruz Career Success. The recipients of the Excellence Award are selected by Career Success staff based on their long-term support and collaboration of our services and resources.
