About the Conference

The Communities of Color Career Conference (4C) provides a brave space for students and alumni of color to engage in honest dialogues and networking opportunities. Students develop career strategies, establish mentor relationships with alumni, and leave equipped with knowledge that will help them thrive in the professions they pursue after graduation. It is not uncommon for students to develop lasting relationships and discover job and internship leads at this event.

Students and alumni can stay up-to-date with the ongoing 4C community by joining the 4C Facebook group.

Alumni Participation

UCSC alumni from a variety of careers, professional fields, and graduate school programs are invited, and many return to the conference year after year. Featured alumni panelists and attendees have been identified as leaders through their participation in 4C. Over the years, more than ten UCSC Alumni Council members have participated.

4C Organizers

The Communities of Color Career Conference is organized annually by a team of students and staff from the Ethnic Resource Centers, Career SuccessAlumni Engagement, Educational Opportunity Programs (EOP), Baskin School of Engineering, and Student Success.

The program committee is committed to NASPA/ACPA* Competencies (Social Justice and Inclusion; Leadership; Personal and Ethical Foundations; and Values, Philosophy, and History), with the ultimate goal of participants being able to answer these basic questions:

  • How can I best prepare to enter the profession?
  • What knowledge, skills, and abilities do I need to succeed in the profession?
  • What does professional success look like to me?
