UCSC is contracted with NACElink to manage job listings and
internships. Job seekers may search the database 24 hours a day,
upload and post resumes online and access numerous career resources.
Please note that the on-campus job and internship database (via
the Career Center web site) is restricted to current students
only.
- Career Advising
"Express Appointments" with professional career
advisers may be scheduled via SlugQuest.
Express appointments now take the place of drop-in advising. You
may also schedule individual appointments directly with any of
our Career Advisors.
Advisers can assist with applying to graduate/professional school,
creating a resume, interviewing skills, selecting an internship,
career assessment and the job search process.
- Career Workshops
Career workshops on Resume & Cover Letter Writing, Job Interviewing
Techniques, Graduate School Application Process, and Selecting
an Internships are offered each quarter. In addition, watch the
Career Center's Career News
for special focus workshops dealing with specific career and/or
majors.
- Career Resource Library
and Computer Lab
A comprehensive library
is available to students on topics dealing with career assessment,
the job search, interviewing, resume development, graduate school,
internships and specific career fields. The computer
lab allows students to apply online for jobs and search career
resource materials.
- Admission to Career Fairs Sponsored
by the Career Center
Several fairs are held each year; usually one or two each quarter.
These include career and internship fairs, the Graduate School
Information Fair, as well as industry-specific fairs. Alumni admission
to these fairs will be permitted only with a valid UCSC Alumni
Access Card and a picture ID. Cards may be purchased at the Career
Center at the 305 Bay Tree Building. Cards may not be purchased
on the day of the fair. Please refer to the Career Center Upcoming
Events web page for fair dates. If you have any questions,
please contact the Career Center (831) 459-4420.
- Career Advice Network (restricted to UCSC Alumni)
The Career Advice
Network (CAN for short) is a group of professionals from various
career fields who understand the value of "informational networking".
Consisting primarily (but not exclusively) of UC Santa Cruz alumni,
the members of the network help by sharing valuable information
with current UCSC students and alumni.
Students and alumni are able to learn from "direct sources" about
a profession in which they might be interested. Connecting with
the CAN members can be quite rewarding. Some of the things you
might ask about are: educational preparation, job responsibilities,
resume preparation, tips on breaking into the field, and leads
to other resources.
It is important to note that this is not a job service, but it
is a valuable network used for making contacts, and learning about
what is happening within a particular profession.
The hundreds of members of the network have volunteered to answer
questions and give career advice pertaining to their particular
career field. Member profiles and contact information are kept
in our in-house database and made available only to our students
and alumni.
"People" are your most important resource when it comes to getting
help with your career development. The Career Advice Network is
a group of people willing and waiting to help.
To use the CAN program make sure to look at the Informational
Interviewing Guide. It will help you prepare for your informational
call or meeting. If you would like to join the CAN program follow
the steps on the first screen of the CAN
database.
